My landscape paintings (watercolors and oils) represent reactions to immediately appealing moments in time and place. Many of the "moments" have come since my retirement from the business arena where I was the co-founder of Advanced Automation, an automated machinery-building firm.
My wife Lois and I have since become avid travelers. We've had extended visits to most of the national parks and many of the "places" have shown themselves during our hikes into their more remote locations.
Acadia National Park holds a special place in my heart. We have spent most of our summers in this moody, magical place for the last 15 years. As you can see, many of my paintings are from this Park.
I was finalist in the National Arts for the Parks Contest in 2001 and 2002. (Top 100 2001, Top 200 2002) These were paintings from Acadia. I was recently published in the International Artist Magazine with a painting of Acadia. (Master Painters of the U.S.)
Our travels to Europe have provided great memories have provided another wonderful source of inspiration. Italy and Great Britain stand out in my mind as fine contrasts in color and mood.
I paint on location as often as possible and enjoy interacting with passerbys as I paint. They add to the richness of the outdoor painting experience. My studio paintings are usually larger and more detailed and I try to pretend I'm still on location when I paint them. Oftentimes I'm helped by a sketch or quick study I did on site.
I'm a 1970 Graduate of Georgia Tech.
I've studied painting with many of the masters of the landscape. These include: Al Stine, Robert Wade, Jim Wilcox, Scott Jennings, Gerald Brommer, Robert E. Wood, Morten Solberg and Lee Cable.
You can find my paintings in many corporate and private collections throughout the world. In addition to this Gallery, I'm regularly in the Stine Gallery in Anderson S.C. And the juried art shows of the Coastal Fine Arts Alliance of Maine.
